Olympic Trials Wave I Finalist Nate Germonprez Verbally Commits to Texas Longhorns

NEW COMMIT: The University of Texas has gained a big verbal commitment for the fall of 2023 from Nate Germonprez of Omaha, Nebraska.

He will join Logan Walker, Will Modglin and Will Scholtz in Austin as a member of the Longhorns’ Class of 2027.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m super excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at the University of Texas at Austin. I’d like to give a special thanks to Wyatt Collins and Eddie Reese for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this incredible program. I’d like to give another thanks to my previous coaches including Tom and Becky, and Julie and JB for helping me become the swimmer and person I am today. HOOK’EM! ”

Germonprez does his club swimming with iNspire Swim Team and most recently won the 200 free at the Speedo Winter West Championships where he also took second in the 200 IM. This past summer, he earned bronze in the 200m IM at the Speedo Summer West Championships with three additional top-22 finishes.

At Wave I of Olympic Trials, he finished sixth overall in the 100m back.

His best times include:

  • 200 IM – 1:44.92
  • 200 free – 1:34.19
  • 100 free – 44.42
  • 50 free – 19.91
  • 100 back – 47.35
  • 200 back – 1:45.14
  • 100 breast – 54.52
  • 200 breast – 2:00.43
  • 400 IM – 3:56.01

Currently a junior at Westside High School, Germonprez won the 200 IM and took second in the 100 free at the Nebraska State Championships as a freshman. He is also a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American.

Germonprez is a great pickup for the Longhorns. His best times are already fast enough to score in C-final of the 100/200 back and 200 IM at the SEC Championships, which Texas will join come 2025.

He would’ve placed in the A-final of the 200/400 IM, 200 free, 100/200 back, and 100/200 breast at the Big 12 Championships, too.
