He’s also the bane of my existence, a sentiment any other small dog owner can probably relate to. There’s not a drop of love in his heart for humans under the age of five. He treats anyone walking by our balcony as a threat and makes sure to let them know at the top of his lungs.
My blood pressure peaks every time we take a walk because he’s so unpredictable in his interactions with other dogs. And with work-from-home and spending every minute of the day together, his separation anxiety has skyrocketed.
Positive reinforcement training, behavioral classes, prayer – you name it, I’ve probably tried it when it comes to his anxiety — and pulled a chunk of my hair out when it didn’t work. With a hybrid work schedule looming and a two-year-old nephew who thinks dogs are just stuffed animals that can move, I’ve gotten desperate for a solution to his behavioral issues. Plus, it breaks my heart to see and hear him suffer in any way.
I Tried It: A CBD Tincture for Pups…
I recently came across Hempcy’s line of Happy Paws CBD Tinctures. I’m familiar with CBD from using it myself and have read up on the science, but I was intrigued to learn that dogs also have an endocannabinoid system, allowing them to experience the same pain-relieving and anxiety-reducing benefits of CBD that humans do.
Being new to the idea of giving anything like this to my pet, I was happy to see that Happy Paws products are third-party lab-tested, formulated with Broad Spectrum CBD (so they don’t contain any active THC compounds), and made in a GMP Certified facility with U.S.-sourced hemp. It helped put my mind at ease and made me feel comfortable with the idea of trying it out.
Happy Paws tinctures come in three formulations: Calming, Daily, and Hip & Joint. All three are available in 500, 1000, or 3000MG formulations, and in flavors like Alaskan Salmon, Filet Mignon, and Roasted Chicken. They also include zinc, calcium, B12, riboflavin, and choline – all essential nutrients that play important roles in immune system function, organ health, metabolism, digestion, and a host of other canine body processes.Luigi only weighs 10 pounds, so I started out with the Alaskan Salmon 500mg Calming Tincture, which is just right for pets that size. The recommended dosage for small dogs is 1-5mg, with 2mg being a good starting point.
By the way, the dosages are super easy to measure out – each drop contains .55mg of CBD, so all I had to do was measure out 4 drops on his food for a total of 2mg. Luigi’s never been a fan of fish, but judging by how quickly he now clears his bowl, he definitely doesn’t mind the flavor! I started off with 2mg in his morning bowl and have since graduated him to 2mg in his evening bowl as well. After just a few days of giving him these drops, I’ve already noticed a massively positive difference in Luigi. He’s a mellower version of himself, without losing his playful personality. He chills on the balcony, but he focuses on sunbathing instead of harassing pedestrians. He gives me permission to leave my apartment and doesn’t even ask what time I plan on being back. I’m honestly ecstatic that I decided to try these products out.
I wouldn’t go so far as to say he’s been friendlier with other dogs we’ve since met on walks, but he’s polite, which is still a major win and all I can really ask for. The final test will be to see how he interacts with kids, but I’m optimistic, which is more than I can say I was before giving Happy Paws’ tincture a try. Not only has it improved Luigi’s quality of life in a short amount of time, but mine too.All I want as a dog owner is for his golden years to be peaceful, mellow, and pleasant, and I’m grateful to discover a wellness tincture like Happy Paws that can help make that happen in a way that’s safe and good for him. If your experience is anything like mine, you’ll be happy you gave Happy Paws a shot too!
