Update: Tangla lost 96 pounds

Transformation of the Day: Tangela lost 96 pounds. Two years ago, she told us how she lost 73 pounds of those pounds. She has continued to make significant progress by working out, tracking her progress using apps, and fully committing to the process. Also, she’s a proud Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

What is your current weight? 152.5 pounds


How have you continued to lose weight?
Losing weight is not as difficult as keeping the weight off. I had to reevaluate my relationship with food and understand the difference between hunger and boredom when it came to food consumption. 


I find success by doing early morning workouts because this kicks my day off in the right direction. Because of my schedule, evening workouts are not always doable. My Peloton has become my BFF. I love my bike, but the platform also offers various classes that I participate in. 


Which of the lessons you’ve learned on your journey stands out the most at this point? 
I’ve learned how to extend grace to myself. There will be days when the scale doesn’t move and days when I may not eat the best or work out. But I am human and allowed to be amendable in this journey.


Would you like to offer new or different advice to women wanting to lose weight?
First, don’t compare your journey to anyone else! We are all authors of our own stories, which are uniquely special. Commit to a lifestyle change, not just a quick fix, if you are looking for long-term success.


I have had great success journaling my weight loss process with the online app, Penzu. I write it all down….the good, bad, and the ugly. It is very refreshing when the app provides annual updates, and I can see my physical and mental growth. 


Also, I track my weight through Happy Scale. It shows the trends in my weight loss. Weighing myself weekly is how I hold myself accountable and recognize what nuances affect my progress. 


It is always good to have accountability partners to motivate and encourage you, but make sure they are not enabling bad behavior or excuses. Always remember this journey is a marathon, not a sprint, and be kind to your body.
