When did you start your weight loss journey?
I started my weight loss journey in October 2021, and so far, I’ve lost 88 pounds. I started at around 221 pounds, and I currently weigh 133 pounds. (I’m 5’3″)

What motivated you to begin your weight loss journey?
When I started having issues with high blood pressure and my doctor put me on medication, being overweight became real for me. People in my family have always dealt with being overweight, which led to high blood pressure, diabetes, and other health issues. I didn’t want to fall victim to those illnesses, and that is what kept me motivated to keep striving toward my weight loss goals.

I started researching weight loss programs and enrolled at a weight loss center. After about six months of appointments, I decided to have gastric sleeve surgery (VSG). It took me a year to hit my goal, which was 150 pounds. I’m currently 18 months post-op at 133 pounds.

How did you change your eating habits?
Before surgery, I was on a low-carb diet and only ate 1200 calories a day. For 30 days before surgery, my dietician had me on a diet that consisted of two protein shakes a day and one meal (protein, vegetable, and fruit only) with No sugar.

What is your workout routine?
I work out three days a week. I do light weight lifting and cardio at the gym. I also walk one mile every other day of the week.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is don’t be afraid to put yourself first. Also, it doesn’t matter what other people think!

What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
The advice that I would give is don’t be hard on yourself. There will be days when you mess up, but the important thing is to keep pushing. Build a support team. Get your friends and family involved in your journey.
