These flavorful and healthy Slow Cooker Turkey Sloppy Joes are made with ground turkey, onions, and green peppers for an easy weeknight dinner.
I am all about these turkey sloppy joes because they have all of the delicious flavors of a traditional sloppy joe in a just-a-bit-healthier form with the lean ground turkey and extra veggies.

How To Make Slow Cooker Turkey Sloppy Joes
The beautiful part of this recipe is that the slow cooker does most of the work for you!
The most difficult part of this meal is chopping your veggies and, if you really wanted to, you could even buy your green peppers and onions pre-chopped (from either your produce section or from the freezer section).
I prefer using them fresh for this recipe and I absolutely love using this vegetable chopper to make the veggie prep faster and easier.

When your peppers and onions are chopped, you are going to throw them in a skillet with your ground turkey until the meat is cooked.
Then, it’s just throwing it all into your slow cooker!
Add in your spices, tomato sauce, ketchup, and barbecue sauce, then stir it all up and set your slow cooker to cook for either 2-3 hours on high or 5-6 hours on low.
Everything is cooked at this point, so the slow cooking is just to help those flavors simmer and come together into deliciousness.

When it’s done cooking, just give it a good stir and it’s all hot and ready to serve!
This recipe is easy to double (or triple or quadruple, depending on how big your crockpot is!) for a crowd, making it the perfect dish for a potluck, a party, or just your weekly meal prep session.
AND it’s a healthier option than traditional sloppy joes.
A Healthy Dinner Idea
This recipe already uses extra veggies (the green pepper and onion) and lean ground turkey to make it a healthier choice, but if you want to healthify it even more, you are welcome to use things like:
Because my husband loves his sweets and I didn’t add any brown sugar into this recipe, I still use honey barbecue sauce to give him more of that traditional sloppy joe sweetness, but that’s completely up to you!

I love serving these slow cooker turkey sloppy joes on a whole wheat bun with a side of sweet potato tots and broccoli, but the sloppy joe filling is also really good when you eat it as a topping on a loaded sweet potato!
