What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
My motivation came from within. I honestly made a fasting promise to God. I was motivated by a personal desire to look how I want and do it naturally.

Seeing my gradual progress inspired me to keep going. When I wanted to give up, I would pull out an outfit or piece and try it on. I would tell myself, “You look good, and you’re almost where you want to be. Keep going.” Keeping my promises is what kept me going.

How did you change your eating habits?
I changed my eating habits gradually. I would fast once a week, and then I cut back on pasta and bread. I adjusted my calorie intake according to my weight category at the time. Also, I cut back gradually on my intake of sweets and snacks.

I always made sure to drink a beverage after eating 1-2 bites of food and adjust that according to what I ate. I also returned to being Vegan, so I incorporated plant-based options into my meals and cut out dairy and meats (I abstained from these foods and replaced them with healthier food options). I ate more fresh foods and paid more attention to when I am hungry and when I eat something, even if it’s a bite or two.

What did your workout routine consist of?
My workout routine consisted of sleeping, stretching, dance, and yoga.

What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
I started at 240 pounds…well, 242 pounds, cause I was going up past my limit. Now I’ve reached my goal: 180 pounds.

What is your height?
I’m 5’4″.

When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
This particular journey started after I healed from Covid, though I originally started my journey back in 1991. My transformation took a year.

Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
I used a natural weight loss strategy as part of my journey and have not had any weight loss surgery.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I have learned so far is that you will face body shaming regardless of your size. The self-love and personal preference to look and feel a certain way have to be all mine.

What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
Do it naturally, be patient with yourself, avoid comparisons, compliment others sincerely, commend yourself, and chart your progress. Also, treat yourself to a new wardrobe item every time you reach a small goal, such as finishing a workout, losing 1-2 lbs in a week, eating healthy, or any goal related to the journey.

Remember that your body will take you seriously when you take yourself seriously and become disciplined. i.e., when you decide to start your journey and actually commit to it.
