Transformation of the Day: India lost 92 pounds. When walking up a short flight of stairs at work left her our of breath, she knew it was time for a change. Determined to be healthier and more active, she committed to healthy habits and exercise.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
My motivation was to lose weight to become healthier and be more active in life. A big realization that I needed to lose weight came when I walked up the stairs to use the restroom at my job, only 15 steps, and was out of breath when I reached the top.
What inspired me to keep going was the progress I made and the support system I had. I knew I wanted this change for me and not because other people wanted it for me. Knowing that this is what I really wanted was a driving force for me to continue moving forward. Now I have people telling me that I am an inspiration, which motivates me even more daily.
How did you change your eating habits?
I’ve tried many diets in the beginning, from Keto to Weight Watchers to Noom and so forth. While they contributed to a good foundation, I developed my own method. I ate more vegetables and healthy snacks throughout the day to prevent me from getting hungry or binging when I got home. Eating less dense food kept me full, and I didn’t feel guilty at the end of the day for eating anything I shouldn’t have. I’ve also cut out red meat, increased my water intake, and drink protein shakes in the morning and after dinner.
What is your workout routine?
My workout routine is a combination of cardio and weight training. My week is dedicated to specific body parts on certain days, and I do cardio at least twice a week.
I started this journey by only walking a few miles a day for 2-3 days a week and eventually worked my way up to walking more miles and increasing the number of days I walked. After my first year of walking, I ran my first mile ever!
How often did you work out?
I work out 5-6 times a week at the gym. Once the weather improves, I will be outside going for walks and jogging.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 337 pounds. I’m currently down to 245 pounds, naturally.
What is your height?
I am 5’10”.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started my journey in March 2021, and my transformation took almost two years. It’s been a long journey, and I haven’t always stuck to my diet or workout routine, but I’ve always made sure to get back on track when I slacked off, especially around the holidays.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
Surgery was not a part of my journey.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
My biggest lesson so far has been to remain consistent. We all have those moments when we feel discouraged because maybe we haven’t reached a weight goal or we’re stuck at a plateau. The best thing we can do is remain consistent, and the work will pay off.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
My advice would be just to start. Buy a dry-erase calendar, write down your weekly and monthly goals, and record any non-scale victories. Non-scale victories are huge!
Take progress pics weekly and monthly. The changes you’ll see in these photos along the way will shock you. It’s a scary, emotional, frustrating journey, but in the end, it’ll be so rewarding you’re going to be so happy you started.
