Dominique lost 106 pounds | Black Weight Loss Success

Transformation of the Day: Dominique lost 106 pounds. After knee surgery, cardiac arrest, and being on bed rest for three months, she knew that she had to change her life. With prayer, lots of exercise, healthy food, she has made tremendous progress and learned the power of consistency.

What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
After having knee surgery that led to cardiac arrest, I had broken ribs and was on bed rest for three months. Imagine being 33 years old and having to use a walker to get around your house. I was living with functional depression, and my highest weight was 278 pounds.

However, to God be the glory. With a lot of prayer and external healing, I knew that scary life event could’ve prematurely taken me away from my children. Although I couldn’t control what happened to me on the surgery table, I had all the power to change my health habits and decided it was time to make a change.

How did you change your eating habits?
I was on a seven-day, 1200 calorie meal plan consisting of a lot of lean chicken, fish, and tons of vegetables. I also love to eat oatmeal with fruit in the morning. Also, drinking a gallon of water a day has been a game-changer. People really don’t understand the health benefits of incorporating water into your everyday routine.

What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
I work out five days a week for 2 hours minimum. My workouts consist of HIIT training and cardio.

What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 278 pounds, and my current weight is 172 pounds.

What is your height?
I’m 5’5″.

When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started in 2019, so it’s been two years. I increased my consistency in the summer of 2020, though.

Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No, I did everything naturally.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
You only get one life to live and one temple to live in, so cherish it.

What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Consistency is key. It’s not just a slogan. It’s a lifestyle. I lacked results at the beginning of my journey due to the lack of being consistent. However, in 2020 things changed around for me.
