7 Prayers for Veteran’s Day

1. Prayer To Thank Veterans For Protecting Our Nation
Father,
I know that no one understands sacrifice more than You. This Veteran’s Day I am reminded of those who sacrificially served our country. You know every one of them by name, and know the hardships that they faced.
Your word says that there is no greater love than to lay down your life for your friends. Our veterans have lived out this very truth by risking their lives for the protection and peace of our nation.
I want to thank You for every man and woman who gave their all in service to this country of ours. It is no small task to train with such discipline and to step out into the battlefield. Yet, so many bravely filled in the gap, and marched forward on behalf of our people.
In protecting our nation, they have given their lives to protect our freedoms. Thank You for their courage and bravery. May they know how deeply grateful we are for them, and for their courageousness that will forever hold a place in our memories, hearts and history. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
2. Prayer Honoring Veterans & Their Sacrifices In The Military
Heavenly Father,
I want to lift up my voice in heartfelt thanksgiving for the veterans who have served and sacrificed for us in the military. I think of how they put their very lives on the line, and gave themselves for the country and people who they loved and served.
I am grateful for their selflessness that has been a blessing to so many, even in the face of hardship, loss and pain. I just want to take a moment to honor them for the many ways that they have sacrificed, and have been separated from their families.
I think of those who have fallen, and their grieving loved ones. I pray for Your comfort to surround them, and that they will hold tightly to the hope that is found in Christ not only for this life but for the one beyond.
I pray for those who have returned home from their duties. Thank You for protecting them and sparing their lives. May they be a reminder to us of those who may not be with us anymore, and who served faithfully alongside them.
I want to give thanks and honor to all our veterans who we celebrate today. Thank You for the freedoms that we get to experience today because of their selfless service. May they be blessed richly in Christ. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
3. Prayer For Veterans Dealing With PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) & Other Mental Health Struggles From Their Service
Lord,
Though the physical battle may be over for many veterans, you know the lingering emotional and mental battlefield that many continue to face after their service has come to an end. It is something that so many struggle with in silence, after all that they have seen and experienced.
I ask that You draw near to those who are suffering with PTSD and who are facing a myriad of mental health struggles near You. Please grant their souls and their minds the rest that they need, and help them to find peace in You.
Please quiet the painful thoughts that fill their minds, and help them place what they are having a hard time understanding and accepting into Your trustworthy hands.
May they know that they are not alone, and find support for the struggles that they are facing. Please lift them out of the despair that their thoughts often spiral into, and help them fix their eyes on You.
May they find the healing that they so desperately need in Your presence, and find hope not only for the rest of their days on this earth, but for eternity, when all the pain and tears will be wiped away. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
4. Prayer For Veterans Dealing With Physical Wounds & Injuries From Their Service
Gracious God,
Today I want to lift up our veterans to You in prayer. Thank You for the brave men and women who fought to defend our freedom, and protect our country. May they know Your protection, and find comfort and peace in You for themselves.
I pray for all of those veterans who have been injured in service. I ask that Your healing hand would cover them in their pain, and bring them to recovery.
I pray for those who have suffered life altering injuries, and whose lives may look a lot different from before. I ask that You would give them Your grace and help them to have patience with themselves as they adapt to the changes in their lives.
Help them to not be ashamed of the wounds that they carry, but to remember that they are a sign of their courage and resilience on behalf of so many others.
I ask that You would not only heal them of the physical wounds that they have suffered in battle, but that You would heal them from the invisible wounds that they have endured. May they come to find peace in Christ, and healing for their wounded hearts. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
5. Prayer For Protection, Care, & Services For Homeless Veterans
Heavenly Father,
There are so many veterans who have fought to protect us, and give us a peaceful home to call our own. Yet, many do not have a place to lay their head at night, and may have little to wear, and nothing to eat.
I ask that You lead them to programs and centers that have been created to help those veterans in need, especially those who are suffering homelessness and have no place to go.
You alone know the circumstances that have led them to their situation, and how their physical and mental health has been affected during their service. Please help those around them to show to grace, and seek Your wisdom on how to assist them in their needs.
For those who have families, please help them connect with their families, and grant their families the heart to help them and get them on their feet again.
Help them to come in contact with the free services that are offered to veterans so that they might be able to be restored, protected and cared for. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
6. Prayer For Those Veterans Struggling To Transition To Civilian Life
Lord,
I cannot imagine how difficult it must be to transition from civilian life after being in service. It is not easy to leave behind all that they have experienced and to get into life outside of the military. My thoughts are with many who are struggling to make that transition.
I ask that You help them to be patient with themselves as they settle into a different kind of life. Please help them to rest when they need to, and to not be tough on themselves when they are having a hard time.
Please surround them with loved ones who care for them and who are at their side, helping them to make the transition. I ask that You help those who need assistance with PTSD or other mental health issues to seek the help that they need.
Help them to establish new routines, and to find new passions that enrich their lives. Help them when they feel anxious, and grant them Your peace that surpasses all understanding. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
7. Prayer For Those Who Have Lost Loved Ones In Service
Heavenly Father,
My heart goes out to the families of those who have lost spouses, parents, children, friends or siblings in service to our country. May this day fill their hearts with hope and memories of their loved ones, as they honor their lives and the sacrifices that they have made.
I ask that You would strengthen the families and loved ones of those who have lost their lives in battle. Please comfort them in their grief, and surround them with Your love and care.
Please provide them with services that are intended for the loved ones of those who have served in the military, and help them to connect with others who have experienced the same loss that they have.
May they come to know Christ, so that they may share in the hope of eternal life, and to know that death is not the end for those who are in Christ Jesus. Help them to lean on You for comfort, and to find healing for their broken hearts. In Jesus’ name, amen.
