Psych Sheets Released For Australian Trials For World Champs; Kaylee McKeown Among the Headliners

This past week featured qualifying for the World Championships in Japan and Great Britain, and the Trials season will continue to active in the coming weeks. The much-anticipated Australian Trials are just a week away, and the psych sheets for the competition have been released. While there could be some changes to the entry lists, we have a good idea of who will focus on which events.

Not surprising, the women’s 100-meter freestyle is absolutely stacked, with Olympic champion Emma McKeon headlining a field that will also include reigning world champ, Mollie O’Callaghan, former world-record holder Cate Campbell and Shayna Jack. Meanwhile, Ariarne Titmus will have the chance to respond to the recent world-record assault of Canadian Summer McIntosh in the 400 freestyle. It was Titmus’ global standard that McIntosh broke.

Kaylee McKeown is slated to contest the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke and 200 individual medley. McKeown recently broke the world record in the 200 backstroke, and more fireworks can be expected by the multi-time Olympic champion.

On the men’s side, 2016 Olympic titlist Kyle Chalmers will go to work in the 100 freestyle as the top seed. Chalmers will get the chance to chase the top time in the world, which is currently held at 47.61 by Romanian teenager David Popovici. Chalmers is also entered in the 200 freestyle.

Zac Stubblety-Cook will be another to watch, as he is the world-record holder and Olympic champ in the 200 breaststroke.
