Pan American Games: USA Swimming Releases Roster, Led by Five Tokyo Olympic Medalists
USA Swimming announced the 2023 Pan American Games roster for the U.S.
The competition October 21-25 in Santiago, Chile, and there are 36 on the roster.
This year’s roster is highlighted by five Tokyo Olympic medalists, including gold medalist Brooks Curry (Atlanta, Ga./Dynamo Swim Club), silver medalists Erica Sullivan (Las Vegas, Nev./Longhorn Aquatics), Jay Litherland (Alpharetta, Ga./Sun Devil Swimming) and Paige Madden (Mobile, Ala./New York Athletic Club), and bronze medalist Catie DeLoof (Grosse Pointe, Mich./New York Athletic Club).
Leading the team will be coaches Brent Arckey (Sarasota Sharks), who most recently led the 2022 Junior Pan Pacs team in Hawaii, Mark Bernardino (NC State), Stephanie Juncker (University of Louisville), Jeremy Linn (Nation’s Capital Swim Club) and Jake Shrum (University of Virginia).
All Pan American Games roster nominations are pending approval of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee. The Open Water roster for the 2023 Pan American Games will be announced at a later date.
In the last Pan Am Games, the U.S. team left the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru with 44 medals – 21 gold, 15 silver and eight bronze – in 2019.
The first Pan American Games were held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1951 and the inaugural Parapan American Games were held in Mexico City in 1999. Both the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games are held every four years for the athletes of the 41 PASO member nations, in the year preceding the Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games.
