Waikiki Rough Water Swim: Kathleen Hohwald, Ollie Signorini Win Event

Hundreds of swimmers took to the water on Labor Day for the Waikiki Rough Water Swim.

The swim was the 52nd edition of the race, which is a 2.38-mile ocean swim race in Hawaii. The race spans the Sans Souci Beach between the Natatorium and the Kaimana Beach Hotel in Waikiki, Hawaii.

Ollie Signorini had the top time of anyone in the Waikiki swim, completing the event in 47:43, one second ahead of Riley Clinton (Nevada). Chad La Tourette (California) was not far behind at 48:09.

Signorini, from Sydney, Australia, won the seven for the second year in a row.

Ned Wieland of Sydney was fourth overall and tops in the men’s 19-24 division, finishing in 48.17.

West End’s Jarrod Poort took fifth overall and first in the 25-29 division (48.19).

Los Angeles native Kathleen Hohwald won the Waikiki Rough Water Swim women’s open division at 51:20, finishing 10th overall. She was third in the women’s race last year.

Catherine Breed took second in the women’s race for the second year in a row at 53:10, followed by Suzanne Ryan (54:41).

There were several age groups in the race as more than 600 participated.
