Futures Finalist Caroline Riggs Verbally Commits to Yale for 2023-24

NEW COMMIT: Versatile Caroline Riggs, a U.S. Open qualifier from Morgantown, West Virginia, has verbally committed* to Yale University and will arrive on campus in the fall of 2023.

She told Swimming World:

“I chose Yale due to the incredible opportunities offered in and out of the pool. The coaching staff and team are extraordinarily welcoming and enthusiastic. I can’t wait to be a bulldog!”

Riggs does her club swimming with Club Mountaineer Aquatics and was the runner-up in the mile at Cary Sectionals back in March. Last summer, she placed fifth in the 400m IM and 13th in the 200m breast at Richmond Futures.

A rising senior at Morgantown High School, Riggs is a NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American. She won the 100 breast and 200 free at the West Virginia State Championships as a senior, also winning the 200 free as a sophomore.

Her best times include:

  • 1650 free – 16:36.42
  • 500 free – 4:52.86
  • 200 free – 1:49.51
  • 400 IM – 4:19.70
  • 200 IM – 2:04.86
  • 200 breast – 2:15.51
  • 100 breast – 1:04.57
  • 100 fly – 56.08
  • 200 fly – 2:03.90

Riggs is a huge get for the Bulldogs, as her best times would’ve scored in the top 8 in the 200 breast and mile at the 2022 Ivy League Championships, as well as the B-final of the 200 free, 500 free, 400 IM and 100 breast.

Her father, Victor Riggs, swam at Cal and her mother, Renee Riggs, swam at Nebraska. Her father is the head coach at West Virginia and her mother is the head coach Club Mountaineer Aquatics.

Her older sister, Abigail Riggs, swam at WVU under their father while her twin sister, Irene Riggs, runs track and cross country.
